We adopt different investment approaches to suit the differing needs of our clients; our growth portfolios are designed for clients who are not in need of immediate income but require long-term capital appreciation. Our income portfolios are suited to clients whose priority is access to an immediate, regular cashflow over long-term capital accumulation. As no two clients are the same, we blend the portfolios between growth and income depending on your specific requirements.
Our Growth Portfolio favours global investment into a concentrated range of funds. Research has consistently shown that growth returns from Stock Markets over the long term are generated by a very small number of companies. These could be situated anywhere in the world. Research published by Professor Bessembinder of Arizona State University shows that from 1926 to 2016, 50% of the net wealth created by the US stock market was generated by just 0.3% of companies.
It is our aim to utilise fund managers that have successfully identified these exceptional companies. Due to the narrow focus, a patient approach is necessary as there will be periods before these companies reach full maturity and are recognised in the wider market. We therefore adopt a long-time horizon and invest with conviction, ‘letting our winners run’.
Stock market/asset-backed investing generates two types of return: capital growth in the form of share price increases, and income in the form of dividends. The volatility associated with share prices has deterred many investors from enjoying the greater stability of dividend income. In our opinion this is limiting as in most cases the capital passes to the next generation and its ultimate value of less importance than the immediate income it can provide. Dividend income currently pays one of the highest returns available and has a long track record of stability and growth in excess of inflation.
It is for these reasons that our investment process has income investing at its heart. The key advantage of favouring income paying investments is that the current income available to you is tangible and can be clearly seen. This income can be used to support your immediate cash-flow requirements or deferred to a later point through the reinvestment into further income generating assets.
